Dublin-born viola player Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh is a member of Cian Nugent & The Cosmos and Woven Skull, and has also performed with Circuit des Yeux, Josephine Foster and David Lacey. Sofia Records recently released a split tape featuring Swiss Barns, her duo with Jorge Boehringer. Oreing is her solo debut, featuring four unhurried but vividly focused improvisations displaying an assured style that seems to encompass Irish trad, Appalachian music, raga, noise, and the drone of Tony Conrad.
“With Julius, he was based in repetition, but here was a spirit of openness and improvisation. His scores, if they were written out that way, were often like jazz scores. He loved multiplying instruments – four pianos, ten cellos – so there was a real feeling of the presence of the instrument, not just using an instrument in some kind of equation, as a means to an end.” ~ Mary Jane Leach

Traditional sounds essentially from Laura once again, but as ever, her record and approach delivers a truly unique orginality and extreme listenability. Piercing instrumentation and an almost spellbinding feel envelops the whole project. Gavin Hellyer
