about

"Tape Melt was inspired by the overwhelming sound of a VHS tape coming under pressure in a VCR player. I had a series of VHS and cassette tapes in my childhood that I recorded movies and music over again and again. Over time the tapes would warp to produce this wonderful cacophony of melting and dripping sounds.

Tape Melt was originally written for Kirkos Ensemble in early 2020 and was expanded to include recordings from Flute Xpansions 2021 participants. Due to the pandemic, everything was recorded and mixed remotely. This piece captures an array of mixed emotions and the trepidation of the unknown experienced over the last few years."
