Aonghus McEvoy is a composer, improviser and guitar player based in Dublin. He explores the spaces between composition and improvisation, and oblique restraint and histrionic rock excess. His work includes collaborations with improvisers and indeterminate scores for small ensembles, is a member of Woven Skull and has performed alongside musicians such as Rhodri Davies, Annette Krebs, Jon Collin, Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh, Tristan Clutterbuck and David Lacey.
"These recordings were made on a residency at Sirius Art Centre, Cobh, Co. Cork. Each day I’d spend an hour or so improvising in a room containing murals by Brian O’Doherty, listen back to the recordings in the evening and try to distill what I was doing over my time there. To what extent the visual information in the room affected this process I am unsure. The music presented here was recorded on St. Patrick’s Day during my last hour at the gallery, with very little omitted".
